Things To Consider When Moving Into Your First Apartment

first apartment

I was SO excited when my husband and I were moving into our first apartment together. It was going to be my first apartment and there were all these nitpick things I wanted to come with it. I was so excited that I went out and bought plates, a broom, and a few other things. BUT, I was too excited to really look into things I needed to know, and needed to have.

So before you decide to move into your first apartment, there are some things you are going to want to look at and make sure are good to go. You always want to make sure you are moving into a place that has no safe hazards, and is in good condition no matter what your budget is!

Here are a few things to check out when doing a tour of the apartment unit you will be moving into:

As soon as you walk in through the door these are a few things you should look at and ask questions about if anything is wrong:
Are the locks on the door safe? Does the door close all the way and open safely? If not, make sure you ask the landlord to fix this before you move in. It can be a safety hazard.

Review: Being A Mary Kay Consultant

So, a lot of people really wanted to know what it was like for me in the Mary Kay business. Although it is something I do not do anymore, it is definitely an experience worth sharing.

I decided to join this business after attending a MK party! I was so excited and because I love makeup and anything that means I can take care of my face and make it look better, I thought, why the heck not? Also, I needed the extra mulaaa for my wedding!

So you will have team members and a Director. Your director and team members are your go to! You get this package called a starter kit in the mail (which you have to pay $100 for to actually become an active consultant), and it looks like this:

It is the cutest bag ever! And it has all the products that you will use for your parties. There are training guides, videos, and a bunch of other helpful things to help you and guide you in being the most successful in your sales.

You will also get a website where you can access even more information and do training courses online to learn everything about being successful.

Your director should/will help you with your very first Mary Kay party ever. Your debut. They will run you through how to throw a party successfully and show you how to make it fun and make it work to your advantage so that you can get more sales and referrals! So the great thing about Mary Kay is that you have a group of girls willing to help you every step of the way, you also attend monthly/weekly meetings that will help you find new ways to increase your sales!

Oh my gosh, YES! I earned a ton of money. Mary Kay was actually a really good and fast way of earning. You earn 50% of all of your sales, and let me tell you, that is not bad AT ALL! You also get commission for any team members that join under you as well as opportunities and competitions to win FREE CARS! YES. FREE CARS. I know multiple girls that were driving around in those free cars. Once you get really high level you can earn a free PINK cadillac! WHAT!!?? YES.

At the end of the day, how much money you make is how much you decide to make. If you stay motivated, push yourself, and don’t give up, you will make a good amount of money and you will move up in the business. If you are lazy and barely ever do anything with your business, then you won’t make anything. You ARE your business. You are what you make of it.

Uhm, honestly, I would have to say it was keeping everything organized. There was one weekend where I had 4 bookings in one day and it was really stressful for me to reorder all of my  things, keep updating my papers for taxes, and keep all the stuff in the tote ready for the next party. It was insane. So if you ever start making a lot of money, I would recommend you hire a personal assistant or something. I’m not even kidding. It will go along way! Keeping up with everything was just a pain.

YES! I still use the products and will continue to buy them because it has been so good on my skin. I absolutely love them and will vouch for them any day. My face has only improved and I rarely have breakouts anymore.

I use these products specifically:

I also use some of the makeup, but because I switch makeup so often I will not be sharing about that. Their makeup is good quality, and I found that people love their foundation the most although it didn’t work great for me.

I ran out of time. I started taking a bunch of college courses, and working long hours, and getting ready to move and this blog, and honestly, I just ran out of time for it. I was ready to move on to new things.

NO. Mary Kay is NOT a scam. It is a good business. It is fun and if you are a stay at home mom, or just have some free time on weekend then I would suggest you give it a shot! It’s not a company that I could ever down talk. And if you hear people down talking it, it’s because they were lazy and didn’t try. Any business you do will take time and effort. You don’t get rich for free. So if you are going to do this, you have to give it the best you can. Just like anything else in life.

At the end of the day, that is up to you. I would recommend it to any of my friends trying to get into a business who love makeup and facial beauty. Mary Kay offers so many things that they try to make the experience pleasant. So the answer is up to you!

1.) Throw online parties! Those go a LONG way! I made a good amount of money doing those.

2.) Dress up when you go out. That’s the BEST part. Don’t break the MK dress code! Put on a nice skirt, and dressy shirt, a flashy necklace, some heels, some lipstick and go get ’em! People always buy more from you when you are dressed up, I promise!

3.) Smile a lot, it helps attract people, and people will ask you questions!

4.) Accept the gifts with kindness! Mary Kay will reward you with free things for making a certain amount of sales. I mean NICE free things. Like clothes, or jewelry, or even a pot set for your kitchen, I’m not even kidding. Accept these with kindness because they make you stay motivated!

5.) Learn more about makeup and cleaning your face! Actually read the training modules and stuff. People will ask questions and you want to be prepared!

6.) Practice what you are going to say on the phone before you make the phone call!

7.) Being said no to is going to happen. And it’s going to hurt. I cried tons of times because of it. And it’s OKAY! I promise. There’s always going to be a bunch of yes’s to the no’s.

8.) Do your taxes! It’s important.

9.) HAVE FUN! Make up and beauty is so much fun! Breathe, take it easy, and enjoy it! Practice makes close to perfect!

If you have any questions or you are looking for a consultant to talk to feel free to contact me and I will hook you up with a consultant! I know plenty of those!

My Tailbone is Hurting Me, OUCH?

Really bad pain in your tailbone area? Huge lump/bump? Painful to sit? Oh… I’ve been there, done that and it sure does sucks doesn’t it.

First thing is first, I am not a doctor, and if you are in severe pain you should go to the ER!

This Is What Happened To Me:

So, after a few days of feeling this horrible pain in my tailbone area, and I mean horrible, I couldn’t sit down, I couldn’t even lay down on my side without feeling the pressure in my tailbone, I decided to go to Urgent Care. My husband drove me (because the pain was just unbearable) and I lay sideways with the seat all the way reclined like an idiot. Tears were streaming down my face and I kept saying HURRY PLEASE!

What The Doctor Said:

Oh, well darling, it looks like you have a pilonidal cyst!

What the hell is that?

It’s a cyst thats occurs at the tailbone and can become infected and filled with pus. Once it gets infected it is called an abscess. More common in men than in woman, I was still lucky enough to be blessed with one of those suckers.

What Causes These Things?

Pilondal cyst are the cause of either of 2 things. The first one is hair. A lot of doctors think that ingrown hairs cause these. The second one is trauma to that region. So, possibly a long and bumpy car ride? Or falling on your butt really hard? Mine was the cause of trauma from driving three hours to and from work everyday. And after it got infected I got a fever!

What May Be Some Symptoms?

Pain on your tailbone (bottom of the spine area)
Swelling in that area
Redness in that area
Draining pus

I had pain, swelling, redness, and a really bad fever. The pain alone was enough to convince me to go to Urgent Care!

What The Doc Does After They Diagnose It?

After figuring out what was wrong with me, the embarrassment was… Just overwhelming. But the pain was bad enough that I didn’t care. The doctor gave me 2 options.

1.) Cut me open right then and there and drain the pus.

2.) Take antibiotics and pain killers, wait to see if that works.

So OBVIOUSLY, being in so much pain, all I could think was, relieve the pressure in my back PLEASE! So, after signing a few documents, I laid down on my tummy, with my buttocks in the air exposed for the world to see. The lady doing my procedure put on a blast mast. A BLAST MAST. WHAT? Furthering into my embarrassment. And then she started explaining what she was going to do.

First, were the Novocain shots. Holy crap, those burn like hell. So prepare yourself for that. And then, it was the incision. The incision wasn’t “horrible”. But it was enough to make me feel discomfort and get teary eyed. And then it was her fingers scooping out whatever was back there, and then it was her putting a CRAZY amount of pressure to push out any pus.

Surprisingly, she didn’t find much of anything, except that I was infected.

I’ve seen so much worse is what she said to me.

So after about 20-30 minutes of torturous pain, she was done and she left the incision open and filled it with gauze (packaged it). I had to return every other day to repackage it till it healed (which was hella painful, so if you go this route take painkillers before you go).

The Embarrassment

I was so embarrassed that the lady doing the procedure laughed when I stared at her blast mask. She explained that she knew it felt embarrassing and that she’d been through it herself. Then, she told me that she actually sees at minimum, 5 of these cases on a daily basis. They are extremely common.

So in all honesty, there is nothing to really be embarrassed about. It happens so often, and so many doctors see this so much that they are unfazed by the procedure, or you screaming in pain.

After The Fact

So when all was said and done, because I had an infection, the doctor ended up prescribing antibiotics, ibuprofen, and painkillers. The incision healed after about a week or 2, and I was so… just relieved because the pain was gone. And since then I haven’t had ANY repeats. Honestly everyone is different, but a lot of the time, it doesn’t come back.

Here Are Some Home Remedies That Have Worked For Me If You Get A Flare Up And Don’t Want To See A Doc

1.) Tea Tree Oil. Rub tea tree oil into that whole area of the flare up. It just works. Don’t ask me why, but it does. Makes them go away too.

2.) Hot baths,  about 15 minutes, a few times day. Add epsom salt, it helps a little.

3.) Heating Pad

4.) Ibuprofen

5.) Stretching, yoga

6.) Staying off your butt especially when you sleep.

Best of luck to you, and if the pain is horrible, I really do recommend you see a doctor for the pain. The relief that you feel afterwards is too great and well worth it!

If you have any questions about my experience, don’t feel afraid to ask me!

Contact Lenses: How I Made The Biggest Mistake Ever

CONTACT LENSES. These are a HUGE deal. HUGE.  I’ve worn contact lenses since I was in 5th grade. A crazy, long time. I remember I really struggled the first few weeks with getting them in my eyes. But eventually, I really got the hang of it and I really just loved wearing them. My favorite brand, and the one I recommend to most of my friends:

My eyes feel like they can breathe! I love these. I’ve tried many different brands, and this one is just the one I keep going back to. (Yes, I have stigmatism.)

BUT, with wearing contact lenses, and wearing them EVERYDAY, I have learned a huge… I mean huge life lesson.

Sometimes, we get careless with things or we don’t learn fully about new things that we try. And while my eye doctor had taught me how to put on my contact lenses and told me not to sleep in them and to clean them “often” there was one thing he forgot to mention. Contact Solution Liquid. Hooooooly crap. I really wish he would have talked to me a little more about it.

One day, I woke up with severe eye pain. My head was pounding something terrible, and I remember opening my eyes and walking over to turn on the light and not being able to see anything. I mean anything…. Through my left eye. And my right eye was swollen shut. I started screaming for my dad because the pain from turning on the light was just insane. It went all the way down through my spine. So my dad comes running into the room and he’s like WOAH. And I’m just screaming at him that it hurts and that I can’t see. Horrible, it was just horrible.

My dad rushed me to an eye doctor who told me that I have pink eye…..

Note the extra periods at the end of that sentence. PINK EYE….

So after getting prescribed some eye drops, 2-3 days passed and I was laying down in bed everyday, in the dark, with out touching any food because the pain was so bad my stomach hurt, with none of the ibuprofen helping with any of the pain, and asking for help to go to the bathroom and back to the room and that’s it. My mom finally decided to take me to another doctor. The doctor said that I had pink eye. And then he changed his mind a few minutes later and said that I had a cornea abrasion and that I had accidentally scratched my eye. He said there was nothing he could do.

So another week passed and the pain and nothing ever got better. Hating my life, I begged my mom to take me to another doctor, I had already missed a few weeks of school and I was just tired of being in pain and sitting in the dark.

The doctor inspected my eyes throughly, for about an hour.

What? An ulcer you say?

“What kind of contact solution are you using? Are you changing the liquid everyday? Are you washing your hands? How do you dry them? Are you sleeping in them?”

These are all questions the eye doctor asked me, that made me realize I was probably not doing too many things right. And that I had been misdiagnosed more than once.

Not only was I not changing my solution liquid everyday, but I was using a cheap store name brand, and I wasn’t drying my hands properly.

After a few samples, the doc learned that the problem was indeed from the contact solution. DO NOT USE CHEAP EYE SOLUTION. I’m telling you it’s not worth it. You are playing with fire. Learn the good brands, and pay the money for it. I never understood how precious eyesight was until I didn’t have it.

After a bunch of medicine and steroids for my left eye specifically, and an every other day check up, the doc said that he didn’t think I would ever be able to see through my left eye but my vision slowly came back, and after months of not being able to look at computer screens, or read a book because of the headaches, my eyesight came back. The ulcer was right on my cornea so the odds were against me.

But I pay the price, I now have a huge scar on my eye, and the light reflects on it in different ways. Yes, I can wear contact lenses again. But I am so careful with everything I do. Eye sight is a precious thing, and you truly have to take care of it. I hear my friends talk about how they sleep in their contacts or stretch the amount of time they wear them to 6 months, and I just want to cry. The things you are doing to your eyes! It’s important that you follow the protocols for a reason. They are in place for your health.

Remember to change your contact solution every single day. Remember to clean your contacts and to inspect them before you put them in your eye to ensure there are no rips. Don’t wear them longer than the recommended time. Don’t sleep in them unless they are prescribed for sleep wear. Don’t rub your eyes. Clean your hands and dry them with material that doesn’t rub off onto your hands. TAKE CARE OF YOUR EYES! If you wake up with swollen or red eyes, OPEN A NEW PACK AND THROW THE ONES YOU USED OUT! Let your eyes REST!!!!

These things are important. We all want to be able to see.
