For a while, I was going through an extremely difficult time. I’ve been in the process of PCSing (the military is moving us) and my husband and I haven’t seen each other in months, and it’s been pretty stressful. I’ve felt alone, anxious, depressed, sad, and many other negative things that make me feel like I just can’t get through the next day.
My faith got a little rocky for a minute there, and I realized I wasn’t putting my trust in God, and letting him take control of the situation. I wasn’t reading the Bible as much and I wasn’t praying. I was just feeling lost and letting my emotions take control. And finally, after a long talk with my mom, I realized that maybe all I needed to do was crack open my Bible. Let go and let God. And it has helped a tremendous amount!
If you are suffering through something, if you just need some strength, crack open the Bible and read God’s word, allow it to give you strength because it is just THAT powerful! It’s the reminder that He set for us, so that we remember His promises to us.
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling.
Psalms 46:1-3 ESV
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
Philippians 4:6-9 ESV
The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised and I am saved from my enemies.
Psalms 18:1-3 ESV
I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber.
Psalms 121:1-3 ESV
For who is God, but the Lord? And who is a rock, except our God? This God is my strong refuge and has made my way blameless.
2 Samuel 22:33-34 ESV
