The Bible has so many life guides for us. So many things that God wants to tell us to remind us that we are not alone in this. We have the main resource that we need to get through our everyday life.

We also have what we need to understanding marriage, to fulfilling God’s will in our love life. My husband and I concentrate a lot on making God the center of all of our priorities. And when we are going through tough times, we sometimes need a little reminder from the Word to help us remember and get through those tough times. These are just a few of the ones we enjoy reading that have helped strengthen our marriage:

A reminder that this is what we are together, this is our strength:

“and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.””
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭19:5-6‬ ‭ESV‬‬

When trying to overcome temptation, or when sex gets somewhat frustrating:

“For the wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. Likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. Do not deprive one another, except perhaps by agreement for a limited time, that you may devote yourselves to prayer; but then come together again, so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭7:4-5‬ ‭ESV‬‬

A reminder to be kind to each other:

“Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives, and do not be harsh with them.”
‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3:18-19‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Another reminder to flee from temptation:

“Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.”
Hebrews 13:4 ESV

A reminder that marriage isn’t a sin:

“If anyone thinks that he is not behaving properly toward his betrothed, if his passions are strong, and it has to be, let him do as he wishes: let them marry- it is no sin.”
1 Corinthians 7:36 ESV

Divorce is not the answer:

“And I say to you: whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immortality, and marries another, commits adultery.”
Matthew 19:9 ESV

Getting through the first year of marriage:

“When a man is newly married, he shall not go out with the army or be liable for any other public duty. He shall be free at home one year to be happy with his wife whom he has taken.”
Deuteronomy 24:5 ESV

Remembering to enjoy life together:

“Enjoy life with the wife whom you love, all the days of your vain life that he has given you under the sun, because that is your portion in life and in your toil at which you toil under the sun.”
Ecclesiastes 9:9 ESV

Patience, love, humility and inviting the Spirit to be a part of us:

“…with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”
Ephesians 4:2-3 ESV
