Relaxing Your Hair Isn’t As Bad As They Say

There is so many things that come with relaxed hair. Especially comments from peers. That’s the big one that comes with it. I’ve always had peers ask, “Do you relax your hair?!” “Wow is it even all YOUR hair, like it grows from your scalp?!” “Oh my gosh can I see your roots?!” And while you so kindly respond yes to all these questions that you truly don’t feel like answering, you wonder why you even continue to relax your hair in the first place. “You’re going to go bold!” “That is so unhealthy for your hair!” “But curls look so pretty!” I DO NOT CARE. I DO NOT CARE. I DO NOT CARE!

Review: Being A Mary Kay Consultant

So, a lot of people really wanted to know what it was like for me in the Mary Kay business. Although it is something I do not do anymore, it is definitely an experience worth sharing.

I decided to join this business after attending a MK party! I was so excited and because I love makeup and anything that means I can take care of my face and make it look better, I thought, why the heck not? Also, I needed the extra mulaaa for my wedding!

So you will have team members and a Director. Your director and team members are your go to! You get this package called a starter kit in the mail (which you have to pay $100 for to actually become an active consultant), and it looks like this:

It is the cutest bag ever! And it has all the products that you will use for your parties. There are training guides, videos, and a bunch of other helpful things to help you and guide you in being the most successful in your sales.

You will also get a website where you can access even more information and do training courses online to learn everything about being successful.

Your director should/will help you with your very first Mary Kay party ever. Your debut. They will run you through how to throw a party successfully and show you how to make it fun and make it work to your advantage so that you can get more sales and referrals! So the great thing about Mary Kay is that you have a group of girls willing to help you every step of the way, you also attend monthly/weekly meetings that will help you find new ways to increase your sales!

Oh my gosh, YES! I earned a ton of money. Mary Kay was actually a really good and fast way of earning. You earn 50% of all of your sales, and let me tell you, that is not bad AT ALL! You also get commission for any team members that join under you as well as opportunities and competitions to win FREE CARS! YES. FREE CARS. I know multiple girls that were driving around in those free cars. Once you get really high level you can earn a free PINK cadillac! WHAT!!?? YES.

At the end of the day, how much money you make is how much you decide to make. If you stay motivated, push yourself, and don’t give up, you will make a good amount of money and you will move up in the business. If you are lazy and barely ever do anything with your business, then you won’t make anything. You ARE your business. You are what you make of it.

Uhm, honestly, I would have to say it was keeping everything organized. There was one weekend where I had 4 bookings in one day and it was really stressful for me to reorder all of my  things, keep updating my papers for taxes, and keep all the stuff in the tote ready for the next party. It was insane. So if you ever start making a lot of money, I would recommend you hire a personal assistant or something. I’m not even kidding. It will go along way! Keeping up with everything was just a pain.

YES! I still use the products and will continue to buy them because it has been so good on my skin. I absolutely love them and will vouch for them any day. My face has only improved and I rarely have breakouts anymore.

I use these products specifically:

I also use some of the makeup, but because I switch makeup so often I will not be sharing about that. Their makeup is good quality, and I found that people love their foundation the most although it didn’t work great for me.

I ran out of time. I started taking a bunch of college courses, and working long hours, and getting ready to move and this blog, and honestly, I just ran out of time for it. I was ready to move on to new things.

NO. Mary Kay is NOT a scam. It is a good business. It is fun and if you are a stay at home mom, or just have some free time on weekend then I would suggest you give it a shot! It’s not a company that I could ever down talk. And if you hear people down talking it, it’s because they were lazy and didn’t try. Any business you do will take time and effort. You don’t get rich for free. So if you are going to do this, you have to give it the best you can. Just like anything else in life.

At the end of the day, that is up to you. I would recommend it to any of my friends trying to get into a business who love makeup and facial beauty. Mary Kay offers so many things that they try to make the experience pleasant. So the answer is up to you!

1.) Throw online parties! Those go a LONG way! I made a good amount of money doing those.

2.) Dress up when you go out. That’s the BEST part. Don’t break the MK dress code! Put on a nice skirt, and dressy shirt, a flashy necklace, some heels, some lipstick and go get ’em! People always buy more from you when you are dressed up, I promise!

3.) Smile a lot, it helps attract people, and people will ask you questions!

4.) Accept the gifts with kindness! Mary Kay will reward you with free things for making a certain amount of sales. I mean NICE free things. Like clothes, or jewelry, or even a pot set for your kitchen, I’m not even kidding. Accept these with kindness because they make you stay motivated!

5.) Learn more about makeup and cleaning your face! Actually read the training modules and stuff. People will ask questions and you want to be prepared!

6.) Practice what you are going to say on the phone before you make the phone call!

7.) Being said no to is going to happen. And it’s going to hurt. I cried tons of times because of it. And it’s OKAY! I promise. There’s always going to be a bunch of yes’s to the no’s.

8.) Do your taxes! It’s important.

9.) HAVE FUN! Make up and beauty is so much fun! Breathe, take it easy, and enjoy it! Practice makes close to perfect!

If you have any questions or you are looking for a consultant to talk to feel free to contact me and I will hook you up with a consultant! I know plenty of those!

How We Saved $10,000 For Our Wedding In 6 Months!

Did you just find out you’re getting married?
Are you in a time crunch for saving money fast?
Well congratulations! (On being engaged and finding the One)

Getting married is such a fun and exciting thing! It’s just so… reviving and fresh. It’s really something to look forward to. So enjoy every step of the way, take a million pictures throughout the whole thing, and try to remember why you guys love each other because you will want to pull out your hair in the process!

What I Did First

-FREAK OUT! Like big time. I was like, oh… my…. gosh! I’m getting married! HOW AM I GOING TO AFFORD IT! I was getting married in 7 months, and needed to figure out how in the world we were going to afford it!

Expenses I Thought About Off The Top Of My Head

-Wedding Dress
-Travel Expenses (I had a destination wedding)
-Hair & Makeup
-Groom clothing (he ended up in uniform anyway)

Holy crap, love… is money.

But really… It isn’t. Don’t believe that, that was just what went through my mind at the time. So we started off by setting a budget.

By the time I had figured all of this out (our budget and whatever) we had 6 months left to save.

So this is how we started:

Minimizing ALL expense. I mean everything and everywhere. If you really want to save for your wedding, prepare to not do anything… I mean anything… No going out, no eating out. Here’s a list of expenses we were able to cut:

+Gym Membership: That freed up $25 a month. Cancelled that, and started doing at home workouts, and running a lot to stay in shape for the wedding obviously.
+Cable: Freed $60 a month. We completely cut cable and got Netflix. No Hulu, no anything. Just Netflix. You can do it, it’s just a few months.
+Cheaper Internet: Freed $20 a month. Do I even have to explain this? Basic package. Or… just go to the library for free internet.
+Spotify: There goes another $10 a month. Cancelled this subscription!
+iTunes: No more buying songs or apps for the next few months!
+Cell Phones: Saving $40 a month. Switched to a company that provided cancellation fee coverage.
+Insurance: Saving $100 a month. I called my insurance company and said I was canceling. They offered me every discount in the book to keep me as a customer and viola! Cheaper insurance now.
+Pizza Friday: Saved $20 a weekend, which amounted to about $60 a month. This was the hardest thing for us to do. 🙁
+Laundry Saturday: This saved  a LOT on our water bill. Did you know that water is more expensive on Saturday? So we started Laundry Wednesday instead.
+Disconnecting Plugs: Saved SO much on our light bill. Whatever we weren’t using around the house was disconnected. Coffee Pot. Toaster. Toaster Oven. Lamps. TV. Chargers. You name it. Turn off lights. Stop charging your phone as soon as it is done. We saved a lot on our electric bill by doing this.
+Grocery Cut Back: Saved $100 a month doing this. Use coupons, and stop with the Junky Snacks, Frozen Foods. No more of any of that!
+Eating Out: Saved us about $200-$300 a month, not even kidding. No eating out for lunch, no eating out on the weekends, no eating out at all.
+Minimum Payments: I know, I know, it’s horrible. Minimum payments on your credit cards, on all of your bills. To save as much as you can, you have to pay the minimum amount that you can on your bills.

That is about $5,000 that we were able to put back in 6 months from literally just cutting back on everything and anything that we could!

That’s on top of money that we were ALREADY putting in savings every month. Because we already had an emergency fund and this was our new savings goal, we started putting the money that would’ve gone into another savings account into the wedding fund. That was $200 every check. So twice a month. That’s $2,400 for the 6 months.

$5,000+$2,400= $7,400

Extra Income:

I became motivated enough to look for other forms of income. My husband decided to do the same! We made extra income by:

Making Money Online. These are some things that worked for us.

I sold Mary Kay. Mary Kay is a wonderful company to work for despite what some people say. I made a really good amount of money selling the products and running my own business. As long as you stay motivated, it WILL work!

Sold things we did not need online! Craigslist, community groups on Facebook, etc. I mean like so many things we didn’t need got sold. I sold our old Christmas tree because we didn’t need it. I sold an old couch that I absolutely hated. Some old curtains that I never used again. Clothes that we didn’t need or hadn’t worn in months. Shoes that we didn’t need or hadn’t worn in months. A few lamps that were just collecting dust in a closet. The list goes on and on and on.

By adding all these three things together, my husband and I were able to complete the $10,000 and have a lot extra for the honeymoon!

We made an estimated number of $4,000 from selling our junk, Mary Kay, and online money-making! That put us at:

So not only did we have extra for the honeymoon, but because we were saving during TAX season, we ended up pulling from taxes 75% of what we had gotten back and splurging it on the honeymoon as well. So that’s another thing to keep in mind that you could use if you know you will be saving during that time frame!

Good Luck! And congratulations on getting married soon!!!!! Have fun.

My Tailbone is Hurting Me, OUCH?

Really bad pain in your tailbone area? Huge lump/bump? Painful to sit? Oh… I’ve been there, done that and it sure does sucks doesn’t it.

First thing is first, I am not a doctor, and if you are in severe pain you should go to the ER!

This Is What Happened To Me:

So, after a few days of feeling this horrible pain in my tailbone area, and I mean horrible, I couldn’t sit down, I couldn’t even lay down on my side without feeling the pressure in my tailbone, I decided to go to Urgent Care. My husband drove me (because the pain was just unbearable) and I lay sideways with the seat all the way reclined like an idiot. Tears were streaming down my face and I kept saying HURRY PLEASE!

What The Doctor Said:

Oh, well darling, it looks like you have a pilonidal cyst!

What the hell is that?

It’s a cyst thats occurs at the tailbone and can become infected and filled with pus. Once it gets infected it is called an abscess. More common in men than in woman, I was still lucky enough to be blessed with one of those suckers.

What Causes These Things?

Pilondal cyst are the cause of either of 2 things. The first one is hair. A lot of doctors think that ingrown hairs cause these. The second one is trauma to that region. So, possibly a long and bumpy car ride? Or falling on your butt really hard? Mine was the cause of trauma from driving three hours to and from work everyday. And after it got infected I got a fever!

What May Be Some Symptoms?

Pain on your tailbone (bottom of the spine area)
Swelling in that area
Redness in that area
Draining pus

I had pain, swelling, redness, and a really bad fever. The pain alone was enough to convince me to go to Urgent Care!

What The Doc Does After They Diagnose It?

After figuring out what was wrong with me, the embarrassment was… Just overwhelming. But the pain was bad enough that I didn’t care. The doctor gave me 2 options.

1.) Cut me open right then and there and drain the pus.

2.) Take antibiotics and pain killers, wait to see if that works.

So OBVIOUSLY, being in so much pain, all I could think was, relieve the pressure in my back PLEASE! So, after signing a few documents, I laid down on my tummy, with my buttocks in the air exposed for the world to see. The lady doing my procedure put on a blast mast. A BLAST MAST. WHAT? Furthering into my embarrassment. And then she started explaining what she was going to do.

First, were the Novocain shots. Holy crap, those burn like hell. So prepare yourself for that. And then, it was the incision. The incision wasn’t “horrible”. But it was enough to make me feel discomfort and get teary eyed. And then it was her fingers scooping out whatever was back there, and then it was her putting a CRAZY amount of pressure to push out any pus.

Surprisingly, she didn’t find much of anything, except that I was infected.

I’ve seen so much worse is what she said to me.

So after about 20-30 minutes of torturous pain, she was done and she left the incision open and filled it with gauze (packaged it). I had to return every other day to repackage it till it healed (which was hella painful, so if you go this route take painkillers before you go).

The Embarrassment

I was so embarrassed that the lady doing the procedure laughed when I stared at her blast mask. She explained that she knew it felt embarrassing and that she’d been through it herself. Then, she told me that she actually sees at minimum, 5 of these cases on a daily basis. They are extremely common.

So in all honesty, there is nothing to really be embarrassed about. It happens so often, and so many doctors see this so much that they are unfazed by the procedure, or you screaming in pain.

After The Fact

So when all was said and done, because I had an infection, the doctor ended up prescribing antibiotics, ibuprofen, and painkillers. The incision healed after about a week or 2, and I was so… just relieved because the pain was gone. And since then I haven’t had ANY repeats. Honestly everyone is different, but a lot of the time, it doesn’t come back.

Here Are Some Home Remedies That Have Worked For Me If You Get A Flare Up And Don’t Want To See A Doc

1.) Tea Tree Oil. Rub tea tree oil into that whole area of the flare up. It just works. Don’t ask me why, but it does. Makes them go away too.

2.) Hot baths,  about 15 minutes, a few times day. Add epsom salt, it helps a little.

3.) Heating Pad

4.) Ibuprofen

5.) Stretching, yoga

6.) Staying off your butt especially when you sleep.

Best of luck to you, and if the pain is horrible, I really do recommend you see a doctor for the pain. The relief that you feel afterwards is too great and well worth it!

If you have any questions about my experience, don’t feel afraid to ask me!
